Beyonce pay tribute to uncle who died of HIV at GLAAAD Media Award

Beyoncé was uncharacteristically emotional in her 2019 GLAAD Media Award acceptance speech on March 28.

She and hubby Jay-Z received the Vanguard Award for their support of the LGBTQ community. The “Crazy in Love” singer dedicated the award to her uncle Johnny who died of HIV.
Accepting the award, the 'Formation singer said:

“He lived his truth and he was brave and unapologetic at a time when this country wasn't as accepting,” the “Pretty Hurts” singer explained.

“Witnessing his battle with HIV was one of the most painful experiences I've ever lived,” she continued.

“I'm hopeful that his struggle served to open pathways for other young people to live more freely," BeyoncĂ© said. “LGBTQI rights are human rights”

“We would like to request that we continue to shift the stigmas in this community,” the “XO” singer explained. “Especially the stigmas in black families towards accepting queer black and brown men and women around the world.”

“Who you make love to and take that a** to Red Lobster is your human right,” she joked, referencing her hit song “Formation
