Highlander actor Stan Kirsch has died aged 51 after taking his own life.

The Hollywood star was found in his Los Angeles home on January 11 by his wife Kristyn Green and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

It's reported that Stan took his own life, with law enforcement reportedly telling TMZ that Kristyn found him in their bathroom.

A statement on Kirsch’s Facebook page read: ‘Dear friends, we tragically lost our beloved Stan Kirsch on January 11.

‘We will be closed for the next 2 weeks as we process and grieve.

'He was so loved and we are all just devastated. Thank you for your understanding and respecting our privacy during this incredibly difficult time.’.

Stan is best known for playing the role of Richie Ryan in Highlander in the 1990s.

He also made appearances on General Hospital and even Friends, during which he appeared alongside Courteney Cox as one of Monica's dates.

His former General Hospital co-star Mark Lawson paid tribute following the news.

He said: "Stan. I'm reeling... all the way back to my first year in Los Angeles.

"You would coach me for nothing. You even let me be your trainer for a minute. You were my first big brother here. I'll never forget that. And that's how you'll stay."
