Taylor Swift reportedly cancels planned Grammys performance over sexism allegations

Taylor Swift has reportedly dropped out of performing at the Grammy Awards which is taking place tomorrow, January 26, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

While the Lover hitmaker was never officially confirmed as a performer at the annual music awards ceremony this weekend, Variety reports that she was set to be lined up for a surprise performance.

Sources have revealed that the 30-year-old singer - who is nominated for three awards at the ceremony - had been tentatively confirmed as the last remaining 'TBA' artist on the rehearsal schedule, but she has now decided she won't be taking to the stage as sexual misconduct allegations continue to surface within the academy.

It has also been reported that Taylor will no longer appear at the ceremony at all, despite a tentative seating plan which was released earlier this week, and which saw her sat next to K-Pop group BTS, and one row behind Beyoncé and Jay-Z

A music industry insider confirmed to Page Six that Swift was due to perform “The Man,” which has lyrics that include “I’m so sick of running / As fast as I can / Wondering if I’d get there quicker / If I was a man.”

The insider said of the performance, “Obviously, that would [have been] extremely pointed.

“Here’s why I think the ceremony will be troubled — a lot of the artists will feel cheapened if there are voting irregularities around Song of the Year.”

Swift’s exit was first reported by Variety, which added, “It’s unconfirmed whether her quietly bowing out is directly related to the scandal involving the allegations flying back and forth between the Academy trustees and ousted CEO Deborah Dugan.”
