Vanessa Bryant files wrongful death suit against helicopter company in Kobe’s death

Vanessa Bryant, the wife of late NBA Legend, Kobe Bryant has filed a wrongful death suit against the helicopter company that operated the doomed chopper that crashed in California last month, killing her husband, Kobe, and daughter Gianna, according to reports.

Vanessa’s suit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday, claims pilot Ara Zobayan did not use “ordinary care in piloting the subject aircraft” during the flight on Jan. 26, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The suit claims Island Express Helicopters was “negligent” and caused the death of the NBA star, his daughter and seven other people on board.

“Defendant Island Express Helicopters’ breach of its duty and negligence caused the injuries and damages complained of herein and Plaintiffs’ deceased, Kobe Bryant, was killed as a direct result of the negligent conduct of Zobayan for which Defendant Island Express Helicopters is vicariously liable in all respects,” the lawsuit states, according to the Times.

The pilot was flying at 180 miles per hour and navigating through fog in the moments before the crash, the suit alleges, according to TMZ.

The suit claims the pilot failed to obtain proper weather data before taking off and failed to cancel the flight when he learned of the conditions, according to the report.

Bryant is seeking an unspecified amount in damages, according to TMZ.

The suit states she’s seeking damages for “pre-impact” terror, citing the emotional trauma Kobe and Gianna suffered before being killed in the crash.

Kobe, 13-year-old Gianna and seven others died in the hills near Calabasas when the chopper crashed into the side of a mountain.

The suit came the same day as a public memorial for the famed father and daughter at the Staples Center in LA.
