Queen Elizabeth goes for barehanded handshake amid coronavirus panic
Even at 93 years old, Queen Elizabeth II isn’t too worried about the spread of coronavirus.
The matriarch went gloveless for a handshake with Professor Mark Compton at Buckingham Palace amid worldwide panic concerning COVID-19.
On Wednesday, Compton, the Lord Prior of the Order of St. John, presented Her Majesty with the Order’s first-ever Service Medal in Gold before a small group of press and onlookers.
Donning a pink and red color-block dress, layered pearls, matching earrings and patent leather block heels, the Queen beamed as she accepted the honor, shaking the professor’s hand out of respect and gratitude.
Last week, however, the Queen wore gloves during an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
Regarding the virus, the world’s fourth-longest-serving monarch is determined to lead by example by “keeping calm and carrying on” until there is “compelling advice to the contrary,” a senior royal source told The Daily Mail.
“It is thought that if the Queen or other senior members of the Royal Family were to self-isolate or change their plans it might spark panic in the general population.”
Another source added, “The Queen didn’t change her schedule during the swine flu outbreak and has never changed her schedule after terrorist attacks. It’s business as usual.”
