Jennifer Lopez breaks down in tears as she talks about the death of Versace designer Luigi Massi

Jennifer Lopez will pay tribute to Versace's longtime tailor Luigi Massi by wearing one of his last creations to the 2019 Met Gala, a dress Massi worked on up until his sudden death earlier this month at age 56.

In a tearful video posted to her YouTube channel Friday, Lopez paid tribute to her beloved friend, who she says "passed away in the middle of making my Met Ball gown."

It's safe to say that Lopez is a bona fide fashion icon, thanks to the unforgettable green, jungle-print Versace gown she wore to the 2000 Grammy Awards. She said her "biggest fashion moment ever" led to a long relationship with Versace and Massi, the brand's master tailor.

"He didn’t speak any English; he spoke Italian. And I didn’t speak any Italian, but somehow we always understood each other," she said. "We had the best time working together for 20 years."

Lopez continued: "You made me feel so beautiful so many times. So perfect. Your attention to detail, your talent and your love will never be forgotten. Thank you, Luigi, we will miss you."
