According to The Hollywood Reporter , the box office smash has managed to gross $1 billion worldwide—a feat that only 37 other films have managed to accomplish.
The film, which stars Brie Larson as the titular Avengers character, recently broke the record for being the highest grossing female-led movie ever , and now also has the honor of being the first female superhero movie to hit $1 billion. Captain Marvel earned $358 million in the United States, and an additional $645 million overseas, beginning from its International Women's Day release date (March 8).
Captain Marvel is now the ninth live-action superhero film to gross in the billions, joining a select few other Disney and Marvel releases.
Avengers: Infinity War ($2.048 billion) still has the top spot in this category, while The Avengers
($1.519 billion), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.405 billion), Black Panther ($1.347 billion),
Incredibles 2 ($1.243 billion), Iron Man 3 ($1.215 billion), and
Captain America: Civil War ($1.153 billion) round out the rankings.
