‘I was terrified’ - Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon says as she open up about becoming a mom at 22

Hollywood actress, Reese Witherspoon has revealed that she was terrified when she got pregnant at 22.

The Big Little Lies actress appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show on Tuesday in which friend and host Drew Barrymore asked about how Witherspoon felt when she became a mom at the start of her Hollywood career.

"I was terrified. I got pregnant when I was 22 years old, and I didn't know how to balance work and motherhood. You just do it," began Witherspoon, 44, who welcomed daughter, Ava Phillippe, in 1999.

“I didn’t know if I was going to have steady work, too. I made movies but I hadn’t established myself as someone who could demand that it shoot close to my kids’ school.”

Witherspoon added that at the time she “didn’t have any real power or leverage within my industry.”

“I was just like every other mom and dad trying to figure it out,” she said.

“There’s a lot of compromise. Every bit of that sacrifice is truly worth it. You feel like that’s what makes me wake up on a Sunday, it’s not movies or my job, it’s my kids.” 

This isn't the first time Reese has been candid about motherhood — earlier this year, she said, "I was 23 years old when I had my first baby and nobody explained to me that when you wean a baby, your hormones go into the toilet. I felt more depressed than I’d ever felt in my whole life. It was scary."

She's now a mother to three children, Ava, 21, and son Deacon, 16, who she shares with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe. She and husband Jim Toth are parents to their son Tennessee, 7
