I was never denied US visa – Bishop Oyedepo

Bishop David Oyedepo, the senior pastor of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, has denied reports claiming he was refused a visa by the US Embassy.

Earlier today, Thisday newspaper published a report claiming the clergyman was denied a visa at the United States embassy in Lagos state.

However, a statement released by the Chairman of the church’s editorial and media board, Prof. Sheriff Folarin, said Oyedepo was never at the US Embassy or Consulate on Thursday and was never denied a visa.

"Mainstream and online media spaces this morning were abuzz with the news that Bishop David Oyedepo was denied entry visa to the United States on Thursday, January 30, 2020. We wish to put it on record and categorically submit that this piece of information is NOT TRUE. At no time was the Bishop denied visa, nor did he create a scene at the US consulate in Lagos, as purported by some mainstream and online newspapers. 

The Bishop renewed his visa, last year, without any initial denial or drama, or scene. The Bishop was NOT at the Embassy or Consulate yesterday or even anytime this year. Bishop has been in Canaanland all this week. The last time he applied for visa, which was last year, he was issued without delay. We have been in touch with the US Embassy and they are as surprised as we are about this FAKE NEWS, which some media houses decided to spread. 

We encourage the Nigerian media to always tow the line of due diligence before rushing to press and try to at least reach the church from time to time, whenever items try to pass through the rumour mill. Professionalism and wisdom require this so as to maintain integrity and make the media trusted in the society, particularly in this age that fake news has become The News. Bishop Oyedepo is a good friend of the US government and has a very good relationship with US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria.

Taylor Swift skipped the Grammys because they couldn’t guarantee she’d win

Music insiders has revealed that real reason Taylor Swift didn’t go to the Grammys is they wouldn’t guarantee she’d win Song of the Year.

 Multiple sources have confirmed to Page Six that Swift’s team talked to show bigwigs a few days before the live event and said that Swift would only attend and perform if she was to win a big Grammy.

But Swift’s team was told the winners are not known to those planning the show, and they would not bend the rules for her.

“[Her team] called and wanted to be assured that she would win the Grammy. And while it wasn’t an explicit demand, they certainly were fishing to find out if Taylor was a winner. It was understood in the conversation that if she’s not winning, she’s not coming to the Grammys,” one insider said.

Another music insider said, “It’s widely known in the industry that [Swift’s team] called to find out if she was getting a Grammy, they wouldn’t tell her, so she didn’t go. It’s not uncommon [for an artist] to want to know. And everyone knows Taylor loves to win, win, win.”

But a spokesperson for Swift said, “I am on the record: These statements by anonymous, unidentified ‘sources’ are absolutely 100 percent false and laughable. She just didn’t go to the Grammys. You guys need to calm down.”

Swift was also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance. She lost the coveted Song of the Year to Billie Eilish.

There was also buzz that the singer was protesting the show after ousted Recording Academy CEO Deborah Dugan claimed that its general counsel had sexually harassed her and that Grammy votes were rigged.

Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich, who held a spot in the show for Swift in case she did decide to go, told Variety there had been conversations with Swift’s team.

“One of her representatives called and said, specifically, that she wanted to do the show for me. And then it was not confirmed … I’m really not at liberty to go into why ultimately she did not confirm … but I understood her reasoning, let’s just say that,” he said.

Bishop Oyedepo denied US Visa

The General Overseer of the Living Faith Church Worldwide a.k.a Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo was denied visa by the Lagos office of the United States Embassy on Thursday January 30.

The reason behind the visa denial by the embassy wasn't made clear but the Bishop  was given the standard default explanation of not being qualified for visa renewal and was urged to try again.

However, ace comedian Bovi who was denied US visa few weeks ago, was lucky with the embassy this time, as he was issued the visa. But his wife, Kris Asimonye Ugboma was not as lucky as she was denied the travelling document.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the Pastor and businessman created a scene at the facility as he insisted that he has not violated any rules or committed any crime to have warranted being denied a renewal of his visa.

When Oyedepo asked his bodyguards to get his phones so he can make some calls, he was reportedly told he can't make calls within the precincts of the visa-issuing section of the embassy.

Though Bishop Oyedepo is yet to publicly comment on the incident, ThisDay reported that he told the Embassy's authorities that he has been traveling to the United States since the 1980s.

The report is coming days after President Donald Trump confirmed his intention of imposing a travel ban on seven countries including Nigeria.
