Danai Gurira announces she is leaving The Walking Dead

Danai Gurira has confirmed The Walking Dead season 10 will be her last.

Danai has starred as Michonne in the series since its third season, but she told fans at San Diego Comic Con on Friday that ‘her heart will never leave’.

‘I can confirm this will be my final season on this amazing TV show as Michonne,’ she said.

'I would just like to say that this has been one of the purest joys of my life to play this role and to be amongst these people and those who are not here right now and amongst all of you.

‘I’m very thankful for the experience I’ve had in ways I can’t state right now. My heart does not leave in any way, shape or form. The TWD family is forever. The connection between us never ends.’

he added: ‘It was a very difficult decision, but it was about my calling and other opportunities I wanted to explore.’

She then received a standing ovation from Hall H.

“We will miss the hell out of her,” showrunner Angela Kang said.

Her exit will be a massive blow for the show, following the recent departure of Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes in season nine – who will reappear in a planned trilogy of movies.

Considering Michonne became largely the show’s central core following Rick’s exit, and as a major player in Robert Kirkman’s comics, it’ll certainly be a challenge for the show if it continues beyond season 10.

Janet Jackson, 50 Cent to perform at controversial Saudi Arabia show

Janet Jackson, Chris Brown, 50 Cent, Future and Tyga have been added to the lineup for the Jeddah World Fest, the concert in Saudi Arabia that Nicki Minaj pulled out of because of human rights concerns.

The website for the event, to take place Thursday at the King Abdullah Sports Stadium, posted photos of the newly added acts alongside previously announced performers Liam Payne and Steve Aoki.

The Human Rights Foundation and other organizations have asked artists not to perform in Saudi Arabia, where gender segregation between single men and women is enforced in many restaurants, coffee shops, public schools and universities.

Other rules have loosened in the kingdom with women now allowed to drive and attend events at sports stadiums.

Thor Halvorssen, president of the Human Rights Foundation, criticized the entertainers in a statement Thursday to The Associated Press, saying it was “profoundly distressing that they have chosen money over morals.”

He added: “These individuals constantly make public statements of support for LGBT rights and women’s rights, except, apparently, when a seven-figure check is attached. The hypocrisy is breathtaking. Principal apparently matters to them far more than principles.”

Minaj said she pulled out of the concert because she wants to show support for women’s rights, gay rights and freedom of expression. Human rights organizations praised the rapper for her decision.

Senate confirms Muhammad as Chief Justice of Nigeria

The Senate has confirmed Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Thursday requested Mr Muhammad’s confirmation. His request was sequel to the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC) to make Justice Muhammad the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Mr Muhammad was first appointed in January after the president controversially suspended Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen, who was accused of false declaration of asset.

Prior to the confirmation, the lawmakers went into an executive session which lasted for about half an hour after which Mr Muhammad was invited into the chamber.

The Senate voted to confirm him after he responded to questions from the lawmakers during his confirmation hearing on Wednesday. Mr Muhammad fielded questions on various subjects, relating to the independence of the judiciary, corruption in the judiciary, establishment of special courts for corruption trial and respect for court rulings, among others.

During his hearing, he pledged to work with the executive and legislative arms of government to “take Nigerian judiciary to greater heights.”

“My view is that only the legislature can put things right. Call a spade a spade. I assure you that we are trying to work with the judiciary. We must ensure that the judiciary is properly remunerated. We will work with you,” said Senate President Ahmad Lawan, commending Mr Muhammad and thanking his colleagues who asked wide range of questions.

The Senate thereafter confirmed Mr Muhammad as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

I felt ridiculed contesting against ‘dancer’ Adeleke, says Gov. Oyetola

Gboyega Oyetola, governor of Osun state, says he felt ridiculed contesting against Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in last year’s governorship election in the state.

Speaking while receiving the leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) led by Yemi Farounbi, a professor, Oyetola hinted that Adeleke ought to have been screened out of the race.

He said the lack of control in Nigeria’s electoral system gave his PDP opponent the opportunity to run against him.

“The country’s electoral system is weak, especially regarding the screening of candidates which gave room for somebody like Ademola Adeleke to contest for governorship seat of the state,” he said.

“Sometimes when I sit down and realise that I was actually contesting with Adeleke, who is best at dancing, I felt ridiculed, very ridiculed. It would have been a tragedy for our state if the whole thing had turned the other way round.

“Anybody that is seriously concerned about the development of the state would at least be interested in whoever is going to pilot the affairs of the state.

“One wonders why the country’s electoral laws would have allowed that guy to even contest in the first instance. We don’t have control. Even in the north where we believe they’re disadvantaged in terms of education, they put in the best always. See whoever goes for any political office in the North is always the best of their stuck.”

Nigeria beat Tunisia to claim third place at Africa Cup of Nations

Nigeria beat Tunisia 1-0 in the third-place game at the African Cup of Nations on Wednesday with an early goal by Odion Ighalo, the tournament’s leading scorer.

Ighalo scored from close range in the third minute when he took advantage of a mix-up in the Tunisian defense at Al Salam Stadium to net his fifth goal in Egypt.

Ighalo was substituted before halftime and left the field holding his left leg, an unexpected end to a tournament where he’s on course to finish as top scorer.

There are three players who could catch him in the final: Algeria pair Riyad Mahrez and Adam Ounas, and Senegal’s Sadio Mane all have three goals.

Algeria and Senegal meet Friday at Cairo International Stadium, where Algeria can claim a second title and first since 1990 and Senegal can win the African Cup for the first time.

Banknote worth £100m displayed at Bank of England

A £100 million note is going on show at the Bank of England. It forms part of an exhibition of items from the Bank’s vast collection.

Other highlights on display at the Bank Of England Museum include the earliest note with a woman – Elizabeth Head – as a payee. Dating from 1702, it is for £40, the equivalent of around £9,200 today. But the £100 million note is for “internal accounting purposes at the Bank, never for circulation”.

One of its uses “is to represent sums held at the Bank on behalf of other UK note issuers, like the Scottish and Northern Irish issuing banks”, the museum said.

“This is held as backing for the notes those banks issue – an assurance that those banks can honour the face value of their banknotes.”

The Bank of England is marking 325 years since its foundation, in 1694.

The free exhibition, 325 Years, 325 Objects, opens on Monday and runs until May 15 next year at the Bank of England Museum on Threadneedle Street, London.

Pakistan arrests the alleged mastermind of Mumbai terror attacks

Pakistan officials have arrested an Islamic cleric and American-wanted terror suspect implicated in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, days ahead of Prime Minister Imran Khan's trip to Washington.

Hafiz Saeed was taken into custody in Punjab province while traveling from the eastern city of Lahore to the city of Gujranwala, according to counterterrorism official Mohammad Shafiq.

Mr Saeed founded Pakistan's Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group, which has been banned since 2002. It was blamed for the Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people, though never held to account.

Last year, on the tenth anniversary of the attacks, the US offered a $US5 million ($7.1 million) reward for information about the Mumbai attacks.

The US has also offered a $US10 million reward for Mr Saeed's arrest, and Washington recently stepped up pressure on Islamabad to crack down on terror groups.

In response, Pakistan launched over a dozen cases against Mr Saeed and several of his associates, which accused them of funding militant groups through charities.

After his arrest, Mr Saeed was taken before a judge and ordered to be held in jail until the next hearing on Tuesday, Mr Shafiq said.

Mr Saeed's spokesperson, Nadim Awan, denounced the arrest and said the cleric had dissociated himself from LeT in 2001 and has had no links with the organisation since then.

But a spokesman for Punjab Governor Shahbaz Gill said Mr Saeed's main charge was that "he is gathering funds for banned outfits, which is illegal".

His charity organisations, Jamaat-ud-Dawa and Falah-e-Insaniat, are alleged fronts for LeT. Mr Awan said they would challenge Mr Saeed's arrest before a higher court.

German woman tries to buy car with cash she printed at home

A German woman walked into a car dealership in the southwestern German city of Kaiserslautern on Friday ready to buy, but instead ended up riding in a police car after she was arrested when the dealership quickly noticed that her wad of €15,000 in cash was counterfeit.

But uncovering the woman's plan did not take much detective work. Local police said Monday that the 50 and 100-euro notes had been printed out on an ordinary ink jet printer, using ordinary printer paper.

After searching the 20-year-old woman's home in the nearby city of Pirmasens, police said they found a printer loaded with freshly printed "money," along with €13,000 worth of fake euros.

According to Germany's Federal Criminal Police (BKA), "imitating money with the intention of putting it on the market" is punishable by at least one year in prison. The state prosecutor has yet to issue criminal charges against the woman.

Although professional counterfeiters use highly sophisticated equipment, the BKA said that amateurs can easily access counterfeiting equipment online, and that "no special knowledge" is necessary.

The 50-euro note is the most counterfeited.

In its most recent report on counterfeit euros in Germany, the BKA said that 54,000 counterfeit cases were reported in 2018, with 99,900 banknotes amounting to more than €17 million pulled from circulation.

Christiano Ronaldo models his new CR7 underwear collection - see pics

Cristiano Ronaldo has swapped football pitches for photoshoots in order to promote his new underwear collection, for CR7.

The Juventus star went topless in the snaps, leaving very, very little to the imagination as he showed off his latest range of colourful pants.

The dad-of-four revealed he was very hands on with every part of the campaign, and wanted the whole thing to have a summer vibe.

Discussing the range, Cristiano said: ‘Summer is my favourite season and I love the time of day when the sun goes down and the sky is vivid. ‘I wanted to capture that feeling in my HS19 campaign, using intense colour that’s bold, rich and compliments my new collection. I wanted the campaign to have a really relaxed feel.

'Summer is the time of year when I have some time to chill out, so I wanted to reflect that. I always want my underwear to have a unique twist, which is where the playful use of colour comes in. Essentially, I want to create underwear that looks so good that I want to wear it on the beach, rather than covering it up with my swimwear!’

Cristiano’s racy photoshoot comes after he returned from a romantic holiday with rumoured fiancรฉe Georgina Rodriguez.
