Toyin Lawani celebrates her daughter's 14th birthday with heart melting words

Fashion designer Toyin Lawani’s first child and daughter, Tiannah is all grown up. And her proud mommy shared photos to celebrate Tiannah who just turned 14.

In her Instagram post, Toyin expressed amazement at how fast her daughter who studies in the US has turned into a beautiful young woman.

“She makes me feel old Tiannah wants to Give me heart attack , trust me she grew so fast , I’m like whattttt Help me lord as about to post Tiannahs new pictures”.

In another post, she celebrated Tiannah while reminding her everything she owns is in her name and she will one day take up her legacy.

Late actor Pete Eneh's daughter is married - photos

Nollywood actor Pete Eneh’s last daughter, Ijeoma Eneh, got married to her heartthrob Mr Chineme Chris over the weekend.

The traditional wedding ceremony of the late actor’s daughter took place at Amaokwe Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State. Pete’s daughter who got married over the weekend, is said to be a dentist based in Abuja.

Halle Berry reveals she broke 3 ribs during 'John Wick 3' filming

Halle Berry revealed that she broke three ribs while filming John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum during rehearsal.

Berry joined John Wick director Chad Stahelski in New York this week to do some press on the upcoming third installment. 

While speaking to Extra, the actress revealed that she did a lot of stunts in her new role, and they did not always go as planned.

“I broke three ribs when I was rehearsing for John Wick... It’s like a badge of honor for me, we don’t know how it happened," she said. 

"I worked for a little while with broken ribs until I could no longer do it.” The injury was so bad that Berry even worried she would be replaced in the film due to her recovery time, but Stahelski waited for her to better.

Nigeria prisons speaks on jail term of woman who died after delivering twins in Cross River

The prison term of a woman, who delivered a boy and girl while serving time at the Afokang Prison in Calabar, Cross River State capital, has been revoked.

The inmate had delivered twins on April 17, 2019 but died on April 19, 2019 due to postnatal complications.

The deceased had died at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) after a combined effort to save her life by the prison authority, the Cross River Government and medical personnel in the General Hospital, Calabar.

The Nigeria Prisons Service Public Relations Officer, ASP Effanga Etim said that with the intervention of the Cross River Commissioner for Health and the Prison authorities to provide the funds needed for the Caesarean Session, the said inmate was delivered of twins: a boy and a girl.

The PRO told DAILY POST on phone Saturday night that the sentence term of the deceased has now been revoked, “No child suffers the sins of the mother or father, in as much as the woman is dead, nature is the final death sentence, the children cannot suffer their mother’s challenge and the sentence is revoked.

“Nobody is going to carry the cross of the deceased, the deceased was in Prison’s custody and the children born were innocent and government would take care of them in collaboration with the Nigerian Prisons Service.”

The Prison’s authority said “The command wishes to state emphatically that for the past four years, there has not been any delivery in the Calabar prison infirmary.”

According to Daily Post the deceased was remanded by a High Court in Calabar on November 5, 2018 with six month-old pregnancy for the offence of child stealing.

While in prison, she had been under regular ante-natal care at the General Hospital, Calabar. On 17th of April, 2019 by 1:30pm she was in labour and was admitted in the same hospital and a Caesarean Session was carried out on her but she developed complications which caused the management of the hospital to refer her to UCTH where she died.

Police arrests man who killed colleague in Lagos during a bar fight

Officials of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a man who stabbed his colleague to death during a fight at a drinking joint in Agege area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana disclosed that the incident occurred on Saturday at about 2.45pm.

He said the Dopemu Police Station received a distress call that some persons engaged themselves in a fight at a drinking joint along Ogunbambi Street, Agege.

Elkana stated that a team of policemen from Dopemu Police Station was drafted to the scene to restore order.

He said preliminary investigation carried out revealed that one Bukola Oluwaseun, 37, of Adeyola Street Dopemu was stabbed on the neck with a bottle by one Sunday Isiah, 42, of No. 20 Olufeso Street Dopemu.

“The victim died on the way to hospital and his corpse was deposited at the Mortuary for post-mortem examination. The suspect is arrested by the Police. Investigation is ongoing. Case will be charged to Court,” he said.

Normalcy returns to Gombe after 15-hour curfew

Normalcy has returned to Gombe and it’s environs after the imposition of a 15-hour curfew on the city by the State Government in response to the prevailing security situation in the area.

The state government had imposed a curfew on the city on April 27 at about 3 p.m.

It, however, relaxed the order on Sunday after due consultation with security agencies in the state.

NAN reports that on April 22, a vehicle killed ten members of the Boys Brigade during Easter procession in the metropolis, while 30 others sustained various degrees of injury.

On April 27 when the bodies of the victims were being taken for burial, the city became tensed as some youths threatened retaliation, hence throwing the town into confusion.

And this compelled the state government to impose the curfew.

DSP Mary Malum, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state,told NAN that normalcy had returned to the town, and that security personnel had been deployed at strategic locations to monitor and respond swiftly to any threats to peace.

Malum called on the people of the state to be law abiding.

One dead, three injured in shooting at US synagogue

A gunman opened fire at a synagogue in California, killing one woman and injuring three other people.

A shooting on Saturday at a synagogue outside San Diego where worshippers were celebrating the last day of Passover has left one woman dead, authorities said. A girl and two men, including the rabbi of the synagogue, were injured.

San Diego County deputies were called to the scene at the Chabad of Poway just before 11:30 a.m. and the four injured were admitted to Palomar Health Medical Center Hospital about 12:30 p.m., hospital spokesman Derryl Acosta said.

San Diego County Sheriff William Gore said at a news conference that a white man entered Chabad of Poway on Saturday and opened fire on worshippers with an AR-type assault weapon.

Gore said an off-duty Border Patrol agent believed to be inside the synagogue shot at the suspect as he fled. The agent did not hit him but struck his car.

Authorities said they had detained one man and that there was no known further threat. They said the attack was being investigated as a hate crime.

Gore did not provide a motive for the suspect — a 19-year-old San Diego resident — saying only that authorities were examining his social media activity and establishing the legitimacy of an anti-Semitic open letter published online hours before the attack.

"We have copies of his social media posts and his open letter and we'll be reviewing those to determine the legitimacy of it and how it plays in to the investigation," he said.

President Donald Trump, speaking outside the White House Saturday, told reporters, "At this moment it looks like a hate crime, but my deepest sympathies to all of those affected and we'll get to the bottom of it."

Saturday's shooting came exactly six months after a shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh in which 11 people were killed.

Pope Francis donates $500,000 to aid migrants in Mexico

Pope Francis has donated $500,000 to help migrants in Mexico, the Vatican announced Saturday.

The money will be used for housing, food and necessities for the Central American migrants. The funds will be split among 27 projects in 16 Mexican dioceses and religious congregations, according to the release.

"Men and women, often with young children, flee poverty and violence, hoping for a better future in the United States. However, the US border remains closed to them," Peter's Pence, the Pope's charity, said in a statement.

The near 75,000 migrants from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala that arrived in Mexico in caravans have been "stranded, unable to enter the United States, without a home or livelihood," the Vatican said.

The Catholic Church said it hosts thousands of these migrants in hotels within dioceses or congregations.

"Media coverage of this emergency has been decreasing and as a result, aid to migrants by the government and private individuals has also decreased," the Vatican said.

Thirteen projects have already been approved for aid, including in Nuevo Laredo, Tijuana and Nogales, which border the United States. The remaining 14 projects are still undergoing the approval process, according to the release.

In speeches, and in a major teaching document, Pope Francis has called for a compassionate approach to migration.

Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg builds his wife a sleep box

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said he built a glowing wooden box to help his wife Priscilla sleep better through the night without having to check her phone to see if it's time to look over their children.

 The "sleep box" emits a very faint light between 6am and 7am - when their daughters are expected to wake up. It doesn't show the time, as that would stress her and disrupt her sleep, the Facebook chief executive officer said in an Instagram post on Saturday.

 "So far this has worked better than I expected and she can now sleep through the night," Mr Zuckerberg said, adding that the device is already popular with his friends.

 "I'm putting this out there in case another entrepreneur wants to run with this and build sleep boxes for more people!"


Not everyone was impressed.

British singer Lily Allen took a jab at Facebook's effectiveness in curbing racist content, asking if there was an algorithm to make white supremacy go away.

Announcing this, he wrote;

''Being a mom is hard, and since we've had kids Priscilla has had a hard time sleeping through the night. She'll wake up and check the time on her phone to see if the kids might wake up soon, but then knowing the time stresses her out and she can't fall back asleep. So I worked on building her what I call the "sleep box". It sits on her nightstand, and between the hours of 6-7am it emits a very faint light -- visible enough that if she sees it she'll know it's an okay time for one of us to get the kids, but faint enough that the light won't wake her up if she's still sleeping. And since it doesn't show the time, if she wakes up in the middle of the night, she knows to just go back to sleep without having to worry about what time it is. So far this has worked better than I expected and she can now sleep through the night. As an engineer, building a device to help my partner sleep better is one of the best ways I can think of to express my love and gratitude. A bunch of my friends have told me they'd want something like this, so I'm putting this out there in case another entrepreneur wants to run with this and build sleep boxes for more people!''
