"Battle for Senate President not a do-or-die affair" - Lawan

Senate Presidency aspirant, Ahmed Lawan, said yesterday, he would not run a rubber-stamp National Assembly, noting the position was not a do-or-die affair.

The Senate Leader said he would agree and disagree with the executive strictly on the basis of national interest.

Lawan, who was in company of head of his campaign organisation, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, said under his leadership, NASS would pass the budget and present to Nigeria within three months from the date it was presented by the President.

Making the declaration in an interaction with journalists in Abuja, the Senate Leader said his aim of aspiring for the Senate Presidency was to help the executive deliver more services and programmes for Nigerians who gave them their mandate in the last general election.

Lawan said: “Our mission as a team is to have a National Assembly that works for Nigerians because we know that they want government that delivers on all aspects of national life and provide an all inclusive economy, improved security, revenue and reduction in corruption so that resources are applied efficiently for public good.

"We must be bipartisan and a National Assembly whose members are focused and not discriminate against any party but work in harmony with other tiers for national development.”

He promised to run a legislature that would support the executive arm of government to make life better for Nigerians by solving the major problems facing them.
