Harvey Weinstein charged with two new sexual assault counts in Los Angeles

Harvey Weinstein has been charged with sexually assaulting two women in Los Angeles, just hours after his trial began in New York City.

The disgraced Hollywood producer appeared at New York Criminal Court on Monday (6 January) where he will stand trial for five charges of rape and predatory sexual assault against two unnamed accusers.

Now, the Los Angeles County District Attorney held a press conference later in the day to announce that they were charging Weinstein with two new counts of sexual assault.

Weinstein, 67, is accused of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation and sexual penetration by use of force and sexual battery of restraint.

The first incident is said to have taken place in a Los Angeles hotel room on 18 February 2013, while the second allegedly took place the following evening.

Both women reported the incidents in 2013 and then filed police reports in 2017.

If convicted, Weinstein faces up to 28 years in state prison. The LA County DA have requested bail at $5 million.

Once the case in New York is completed, Weinstein is expected to appear in LA County court to face those charges.
